The seasons are a tricky thing on the West Coast. You don’t really get true summer in SoCal until late June. Fall typically comes towards the end of November. “Winter” is a quick one and Spring pops up around early March. We get a day here or there that ends up just being a tease as the following day’s temps shoot back up to sweltering. You get used to it, and you figure out how to dress accordingly. Throw in the fact that it’s usually sub-zero temps at work and you get a true necessity for layers.
This outfit fit perfectly into the category of seasonally ambiguous. I knew I needed a sweater to combat the early morning chill and the frigid newsroom, but I didn’t need tights to cover my legs because the high was around 90 in Los Angeles. Wearing the boots was probably pushing it. But I knew when I bought the blue dress over the summer that I’d be able to wear it year round depending on the layering situation. I belted the boyfriend cardigan over the dress to cinch in my waist/make it look like I actually have a waist when, in fact, I don’t. The dress is a very lightweight material so I knew I wouldn’t be sweating too much. When the temps drop even more I can put a turtleneck under the dress or throw on my leather jacket and include tights to make it warm and cozy. Also, this is my absolute favorite sweater in my closet. It goes everywhere with me. I’d be lost without it.
