June was an insanely busy month for us. It always happens when you schedule a trip at the end of the month, the rest of the month is crazy busy trying to get all the things done in order to take said vacation with a clear mind and an empty inbox. Hubs and I decided to take separate vacations. He went to Nicaragua for a week to surf his brains out. You can read all about my vacation in Tuesday’s post. Let me know if you want to hear about hubs surf trip. I think I might be able to persuade him to tell his story. As for this month’s favorites, I have transitioned my beauty routine to a more summer friendly routine in terms of products, time, and effort. Some of my favorites this month made my life so much easier, especially when it came time to prep and pack for my trip.
Let’s start with makeup. Because I get so dark in the summer months (thank you Whindian heritage), none of my foundations really match my skin. I’m pretty good about protecting my skin, especially my face, I always wear a hat and layer up the sunscreen, but I still get some color to my face. Instead of doubling up on expensive foundations to color match, I reach for tinted moisturizers instead. The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is the perfect combination of moisture and color. My skin can breathe and when it’s hot as hell outside, breathing skin is crucial. I also have very faint freckles on my nose and cheeks in the summer and I like them to show. This particular tinted moisturizer provides good coverage, but not too much that you can see the freckles. I use the shade Tawney. The added SPF is nice for the days where I’m not wearing a hat and need some sort of protection from the sun.
I know Becca products are all the rage right now, and for good reason. The new collaboration line with Jaclyn Hill is absolutely stunning. I’m bummed about the situation with the eye-shadow palette because it was so dang gorgeous, but I appreciate the choice to sacrifice in the name of quality. In lieu of the eye-shadow, I went for the face palette. There are three stunning blush shades, though I use the middle shade as a bronzer more so than a blush. I mix the two pink shades for a peachy-pink summer hue on my cheeks, and I also blend the two highlighters (Cult Favorite Champagne Pop and newbie Prosecco Pop) for a subtle summer glow. A little trick I learned from Jaclyn herself (via her youtube videos), dust a little highlight on your collar bone and shoulders for a little extra glow.
Now on to hair. The longer my hair gets the more I like to experiment with various products. I’m still searching for the perfect product combo, but I’m enjoying the search process. When planning for my NC trip, I knew I wouldn’t be doing much, if anything at all, with my hair aside from braiding it and sticking a hat on my head. But when I did want to attempt to style it, I knew I’d be battling the infamous Southern Summer Humidity. Yup…don’t miss that one bit. The phrase “It’s hot, but it’s a dry heat” means everything to me! I stumbled upon the Living Proof
frizz anti-humidity line thanks to my ability to hoard beauty points at Sephora. I took the samples to the East Coast with me and am so glad I did. While I don’t think I’ll be purchasing the full size shampoo, conditioner, and styling cream, I will absolutely be getting at least one, full size bottle of the Humidity Shield. It smells amazing and is the perfect finishing spray to keep my hair in check without making it stiff.
For summer nails I like to wear bright, fun colors that really help play up my tan. I’ve been seeing variations of blue polish on beauty bloggers and vloggers a lot lately, and I can totally understand why. This color is such a fun shade of blue that’s not electric, but not too muted either. This specific polish, Sinful Colors’ shade called Sail La Vie* is so fun, and has the added bonus of not being expensive either. The entire range from Sinful Colors is really pretty. I think I got mine at Walmart for less than $5. To get the color truly opaque it took a few thin coats of the color, maybe 4 in total, and I topped it off with Essie’s Gel Setter* Top Coat.
And finally, my friend Al the Gator. I snagged this ring at Banana Republic at the beginning of the month and have literally worn it Every. Single. Day. this month. It is so dang cute, but also really pretty in the Rose Gold tone. It’s subtle and dainty but still fun with the reptile perched on top. I wear the same rings every day; my wedding and engagement rings, an anniversary ring from the hubs, and my mother’s princess ring, which was given to her by her mother. Add Al to the mix and you’ve got yourself a party!
What have you been loving this summer?
