We’re all moved into the house now. I spent two uninterrupted days unpacking everything. The hubs was away on a work trip so I took that opportunity to unpack like a fiend. We moved Friday, I was out of boxes Saturday, and by Sunday evening I was kicked back and relaxing. This is the first move I’ve ever done, nor will it be the last, I’m sure. But this is the first time for many things. This is our first house, this is the first time we’ve used movers (and we will never move without professional help again), this is the first time I managed to actually pack the entire apartment before moving day, and the first time I wasn’t absolutely dreading the physical process of moving.
In my HSH post last week I mentioned some tips for moving. Now that we’ve done this move, here’s what I feel like I learned in the process, and maybe what I would and wouldn’t change.
No matter how you label the boxes, the majority of them will end up in the wrong room.
You can never have too much packing tape.
You will inevitably end up with at least 2 miscellaneous boxes.
Just because you pay movers doesn’t mean you don’t have to lift a finger.
Your back and legs will be killing you, and no amount of pain killers will help that. Just power through.
Pizza and beer really are the best thing after a move.
Just take it one load at a time.
I can’t wait for the posts coming up! It’ll be worth the wait. Promise.
