It seems like this month I’ve got makeup on the brain. Last week I posted my top five favorite spring nail colors. This week I’m talking about my most used lip colors. I’ve only recently embraced the art of lipstick. Yeah, it’s art. Go with it. I have never been a huge fan of lipstick. Mostly because I feel like I look like I did when I was a child when mom would give in to my constent begging for her lipstick. She’d swipe it on my lips and tell me blot, and I’d spend the remaiing time I had left with the color on my lips pretending I was JEM. Mom would usually cycle her brightest pink lipsticks on me when I nagged enough.
Now I reach for more neutral tones. I’m still on the quest for the perfect nude. I haven’t found it yet, but I’ve found some pretty pinks and mauve tones to get my lips as close to the Your Lips But Better color as I can get.
I love the formula of the NARS Satin Lip Pencils. It’s so creamy and glides on effortlessly. It doesn’t dry my lips out like a normal lipstick but it lasts much longer than a balm or gloss. This mauvey tone is perfect for a little enhancement to my natural color without being too purple or brown.
I raved about the Urban Decay lipstick in my March Favorites, but I had to put it on this list because it’s such a pretty color. Also, that purple packaging is one of my favorite lipstick packaging in my collection.
You can see this MAC lipstick in action in my Everyday Makeup Tutorial. This color is a bit more in the pink side. When applied by itself it can wash you out depending on your skin tone, but when paired with a lip pencil as a base, it’s the perfect pinky-nude. I use MAC’s Edge to Edge lip pencil, is the perfect base.
The Dior Addict Glow balms aren’t so much a lipstick, but a very powerful balm. There’s great color payoff, but not like a lipstick. It’s got a nice shine to it, but also not like a lip gloss. This is more of a hint of the pink color and I keep it in every purse I carry. When I want something more than a Chapstick and don’t have the time or patience to apply with a mirror, I can swipe this on my lips and be good to go.
In terms of glosses, Buxom glosses have to be my favorite. They aren’t sticky, they have good color payoff, and the tingling sensation is pretty cool. I don’t go for Kylie lips, but the Buxom glosses make you feel like your lips are plump and pretty. I don’t think my lips actually get more plumped when I use this gloss, but it at least feels like they do. There’s also not much of a taste or smell, which I prefer with glosses.
