There’s a fine line between makeup collector and makeup hoarder. Admittedly, I’m not sure what side of that line I’m on. I do throw out things that have expired, if you don’t count the one or two items I keep for nostalgic purposes (collector or hoarder?). Regardless of what category I might fall in, I have to have a place to store all my beauty goodies. When we moved into our current apartment I wanted to get my makeup out of the bathroom drawers and into a more organized set up so I could really see everything I have. That way things don’t get lost in the ether and forgotten about.
After browsing countless youtube pages and seeing the endless ways people store their makeup, I decided to take the IKEA Alex drawer route. After going through each and every piece I own, deciding what to keep, what to give away, and what to toss, I filled each drawer based on what part of the body it beautified.
Before even getting into the drawers I opted to display my growing perfume collection and my most-worn Jewelry on the top of the drawers. I use a key shaped ring holder for the four rings I wear every. single. day. The metal leaf plate was from HomeGoods, purchased many moons ago. My earrings I wear every. single. day. go in the leaf before I go to bed each night. The So Fancy mug holds all my perfume samples I get from Birchbox, Sephora, etc.
Now for the drawers…
The top most drawer holds all my face products; primers, foundations, concealers, blush, bronzers, makeup sponges, wipes. Check out my post on what I use on a daily basis.
Next is my eye makeup; primers, liners, shadow sticks, shadow pots, mascaras.
Drawer three holds all of my eye shadow palettes; Morphe (350, 35T, and Jaclyn Hill Favorites), Urban Decay’s Gwen Stefani Palette, Naked 1, Naked 2, Naked 3, Naked Smokey, Naked Basics, Too Faced Chocolate Bar, Too Faced Love, and some other smaller palettes.
Next is the lip drawer.
Now we move on to hair. In this drawer is my clips, rubber bands, elastic headbands, bobby pins, my sock bun, and velcro rollers.
Next is round brushes, paddle brushes, combs and headbands.
Then it’s all of my hair tools; blow dryer, curling irons, curling wand, flat iron. This one seems like a mess, but surprisingly I know where everything is.
This drawer is all about nails. This might be my favorite drawer.
The last one is a random assortment of things that I don’t reach for daily, but use at some point. This is where I keep all of my sample size products I get from Birchbox, extra cotton swabs and rounds, tweezers, brush cleansers and lashes.
The plastic drawer inserts came from IKEA and the mesh holders and baskets are from the office supply section at Target.
So what do you think, collector or hoarder?
